Welcome to blog.dataviking.tech, a blog created by Wesley Johnson.

About

I (Wesley) have always been drawn to places where disciplines blur - where engineering meets storytelling, where data meets intuition, where leadership feels less like control and more like devotion.

For the last decade, I’ve built and led teams focused on data, analytics, and technology. My work has spanned everything from architecture and automation to mentorship and organizational design. I’ve written code, guided teams, and designed systems that help people make better decisions - not just faster ones - and I’ve had a ton of fun along the way!

What I love most isn’t any single discipline. It’s the craft of making sense of complexity: turning chaos into structure, and structure into possibility.

This blog is my space to think out loud about:

  • What it means to build reliable systems, both technical and human
  • How data can clarify and distort our understanding of the world
  • When people are more complicated than data work

Why “Data Viking”

Because exploration is at the heart of my work. We navigate uncertain waters, sometimes charting maps, sometimes burning them. It’s about discovery, craftsmanship, and the courage to build things that last.

Oh, and it was a nickname from my first “real” job. Some things just stick.
